Thank God! We went with a darker stain than we were initially thinking, but I think it was the right choice. I was afraid of seeing so much grain, but the contrast is nice. I still need to apply a finish to it, but, to most people, it is “done”.
I have a few more things to do on the back side of it. I will add some shelves for service books and come up with a way to hang the altar boy’s torches.

Iconostasis Part 2

I am continuing to work on the Iconostasis as I have time this summer. Having the kids out of school for the summer makes things very busy.
I added another set of columns and a center false beam. We then added crown molding to each “wing” and to he center beam.
I took out the curvy bits over the tops of the icons and cut an arch in each one before reinstalling.

Iconostasis Part 1

Христосъ воскресе!
We recently completed building a new Orthodox church. We have been working toward this as a community for 17 years. Once the building was completed, it was time for us to move in. One thing that wasn’t part of the building project is the iconostasis. An iconostasis is a wall that separates the nave from the sanctuary that has icons facing the nave. Wikipedia article on iconostasis here. Father coordinated some volunteers for the design and the building project was mostly handed to me to complete.

Workbench Part 2

Workbench Project - Part 2
The workbench is finished for now. I am adding holdfast holes as I need them. I’m looking at adding a vise at some point, but I haven’t found one that I like yet. I flattened the top with my #8 and finished the top with boiled linseed oil.

French Tool Rack

French tool rack built in October 2017

Workbench Part 1

Workbench Project - Part 1

Dutch Tool Chest

Dutch Tool Chest built in February and March 2017
